Your starting heroes are a Crusader and a Highwayman or more commonly
referred to as Reynauld and Dismas. Don’t become attached to these
two. Once a hero dies he stays dead. It’s likely you’ll lose one or
both as you progress through the game. They start off on the old road
that leads the Hamlet. You’ll have to kill some bandits on the way into
town. This is typically easy enough to do. Just use the Highwayman’s
melee attack, which also causes bleed (or damage over time) and the
Crusader’s stun attack. You
should get through with minimal stress and damage. The chest is
typically trapped so I wouldn’t bother with opening it.
